A Day in April

JEANE, a young Jamaican immigrant leaves her family, her three children, and her homeland to pursue greater opportunities in America. Placed as a nanny in a home on the Upper West Side, Jeane plans to work, keep her head down, and secure a life for her children. However, when Martin Luther King Jr is assassinated her first night, her ideals and motivations are challenged by the myth of America crumbling around her. Examining the key moments leading up to her immigration in contrast with her first 48 hours in a city on fire, A DAY IN APRIL explores what it means to be an immigrant and what it takes to be an American.
